Mary Bocock: Patience At Speed

Ski racing is the heartbeat of the Bocock family.

Before making her Olympic debut, Mary Bocock sat down with Back The Team — and her story begins, fittingly, with her sister Elizabeth at her side.

“We’re so lucky that we have each other. We’re on the road all winter in Europe, moving every three days, and having Elizabeth with me most of the time makes all the difference.”

Their bond has been shaped not just by travel, but by competition.

“When your younger sister beats you, that’s challenging at first… but we’ve grown into it. Now the times I get to race with her are my absolute favorite.”

Mary gets more nervous watching Elizabeth than skiing herself, the mix of rivalry, love, and pride that only sisters can understand.

But while the Bocock sisters are a force on the circuit, Mary is quick to widen the lens. Their story lives inside something much bigger: the U.S. women’s speed team at its best

Momentum That Moves a Team

“The Women’s team is number one in the world by a lot right now. We haven’t been this strong in a long, long time.”

Success is contagious. This season is living proof.

“On any given day, anyone can have the best race of their career — a podium, a win, or World Cup points. That raises everyone’s standard.”

Mary credits veterans on the team for building this culture.

“The older girls have done such a great job mentoring us… and the coaches hold everyone to the same standard. That’s really what brings the whole team up.”

In an extreme sport where outcomes are never guaranteed, Mary has learned to treat uncertainty as fuel, not fear.

“If you ski well, anyone can win…but that means you have to attack. You can’t just ski down and hope for the best. For me, I don’t need to find a bigger gear, I already have it. My job is to execute my plan.”

Courage in the Start Gate

Fear still shows up. Mary doesn’t pretend otherwise.

I definitely still get scared. But just because you’re scared doesn’t mean you can’t be aggressive and send it.”

So, Mary practices something deeper than technique: she practices courage through clarity: feeling the nerves, steadying herself with a few deep breaths, and sending it anyway.

As she makes her Olympic debut, Mary carries more than speed. She carries the support of her family, a world-class team behind her, and a mindset that refuses to shrink when the stakes rise.

If momentum is contagious, Mary is proof that the U.S. women’s speed team isn’t just having a moment, they’re building a legacy.

And Mary Bocock is skiing straight through its center.
